PILGRIMAGE TO MANIMAHESH SACRED LAKE. August- September 2017
This is a meditative journey rich in mythological stories, vedic philosophy and magnificent views. One will easy forget the pains of life watching the wonder of natural scenery and get immersed in the enchanting ambience. It's also a rare occasion to see the customs and rituals of the indigenous people and learn and practice meditation in a natural surrounding.
Manimahesh Lake is situated at Dhauladhar Mountain Range of Himalaya, at the foot of Manimahesh Kailash, 13500 feet above the sea level. The lake and peak are considered sacred as Lord Shiva is believed to reside on this snow-covered mountain. The name Manimahesh signifies a jewel (Mani) on Lord Shiva's (Mahesh's) crown. According to the Hindu philosophy Shiva was the Greatest Yogi. He symbolize a pure consciousness, an ultimate reality and the highest state of existence. A fair called Manimahesh (Manimahesh Yatra) is held at the lake every year in the months of August and September.
Trekking Route: Chinar (1800m) - Triund (2835m) - Snow Line, Lahas Cave (3300m) - Indrahara (4400m) - Chata (3700m) - Kwarsi Village (2900m) - Klaha Village (2900m) - Jail Khad (3200m) - Klaha Pass (4800m) - Manimahesh (4500m) - Hadsar Village (2400m) - Bharbour town (2000m) - back to Chinar.

Price: THE PRICE FOR ENTIRE 10 DAYS IS €500. This includes: guide and porter fees, meals and accommodation, transport from and to Dharamsala airport. Not included: air-fare, travel insurance, entry visa to India, rental equipment if necessary (sleeping bag, backpack, etc.), additional items such as snacks, extra drinks. * WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE TRAVEL & HEALTH INSURANCE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, AS THIS IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE.
Food and Accommodation. Our base camp will be Chinar, which offers a clean, simple and charming rooms in the heart of nature (single and double). During the trek accomodation will be very basic ( family houses, tents, caves), you will have to forget about wi-fi, hot showers and flushing toilets - it's going to be real... At Chinar we serve variety of delicious vegetarian meals, fruits and juices, high in the mountains food will be more simple but always fulfilling.
Your Guides in this journey: Ved- a Dharamsala local, expert mountaineer, connoisseur of Himalayan wilderness, and above all a kind and patient human being. Ilona Saumyatirta - artist, philosopher, yogini, cultivating infinit love for truth, beauty and freedom.
Health requirements. Due to long walking distance, high attitude (certain areas of the valley approach 4,000m )and temperatures ( the nights can be around 5˚C, and during the day up to 25˚C) good condition of physical and mental health is required. Travelers insurance is highly recommended in case of emergencies.
What to bring: sleeping bag (also available on rent ),good waterproof equipment: rain coat, trousers, hiking boots, warm jacket, pullover, hat and gloves, sun hat, sun glasses, water bottle, water purification tablets, personal toiletries ( natural and organic - to protect pure Himalayan nature), medicine. You can buy all of these things in MacleodGanj (nearby village) but the quality wont be too high. Also please keep in mind that carrying a heavy backpack in the mountains, makes the route harder.
Visa information: You should obtain an indian turist visa before arriving to India. You can do it at Indian Ambasy in your country or you can apply online at https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/. Be aware that visa processing time may teke up to 3 weeks.

We prefere to travel in a small group so we'll close registration at 7 people. We are asking for a deposit of €300 to secure your place.
